- Run the mechanical upgrade with Laravel Shift (the automated upgrade tool; its fee is included), then review every change by hand
- Update or replace packages that block the upgrade
- Fix breaking changes, deprecations and config changes the tools miss
- Run and fix your tests, and add smoke tests for key flows if you have few tests
- Move PHP to a supported version on your server or container
- Deploy to staging, then production in an agreed window, with a rollback plan

Isn’t this just running Laravel Shift?
Shift does the mechanical part well, and I use it. The rest of the job is packages, PHP, tests, config, server and deploy. That’s what you’re paying for.
How much does a Laravel upgrade cost?
From $390 ($300 founding) for one hop with tests. The price rises with the number of hops, missing tests and blocked packages. You get a fixed quote before you pay.
Can you skip versions?
I go one major version at a time, but in one project. It’s safer, and each hop is small.
What if a package is abandoned?
I list replacements in the quote. Rewriting a package is quoted separately.
Will there be downtime?
Normally only a normal deploy. PHP changes on a plain server are done side by side, so rollback is quick.
Do I need Laravel 13, or is 12 enough?
Laravel 12 gets security fixes until 24 Feb 2027. Going to 13 buys support until 17 Mar 2028.
